WHEN TO LOOK FOR A PORTFOLIO MANAGER?

A common question that we get asked when meeting with prospective clients is, “What can you do for me that my current advisor can’t?”  Of course, every firm will have their own answer on what makes them stand out from the crowd.  I believe there are many things that make us special, including our Biblically informed approach to investing, our independence from the banks, our boutique feel, and our exceptionally low turnover of staff.  However, what seems to pique the most interest from prospective clients is our alternative or what we call “non-traditional” investments.  We are able to provide access to investments that have historically only been available to large institutions and pension funds.  The fact that we were trailblazers in the field of non-traditional investments and therefore have an established track record of five plus years worth of performance is a strong selling point for our firm; it has helped us to grow tremendously within the past few years.

Whether crafting an entirely new investment strategy or working in conjunction with a current investment professional, we can introduce non-traditional investments into the portfolio mix.  These investments are generally not correlated to traditional markets and provide a significant degree of insulation from market turmoil, while providing an opportunity for superior returns.  This makes our non-traditional investments a great complement to any existing portfolio.  Given the market highs and long bull market we have witnessed, there is increased awareness regarding a potentially looming downturn.  While this has historically generated a flight to safety, we encourage a flight to alternatives as the new investor phenomenon.
